This is the Hall of Fame for all those that are trying out Paul McKenna’s I Can Make You Thin.
Please feel free to introduce yourself and say a little about what you would like to achieve. Then as time goes on please come back and let us all know how you are getting on. Be great if you could update me on the TV show as well, as being based in the UK I don’t get to see that. I think if you really want to succeed it is worth getting the book as well, the CD is brilliant and every time I listen to that it makes me just that little bit more positive. It is available through Amazon both in the UK and in the USA.
OK I’ll start – my name is Alison – I am 38 years old. I live in the South East of the UK and I would ideally like to lose about 5 stone (gulp). 6 pounds down already after starting this WOE (way of eating)…and counting. Although have solemnly promised myself not to weigh myself every minute of every day…that way madness lies, believe me I know
Ok, who’s next? Come on don’t be shy…..

My name is Janie and I live in the Pacific Northwest, USA. I need to loose weight for medical reasons (arthritis) and just recently became aware of Paul McKenna’s book. This is my second day and everything seems to be going very well.
My name is Heather and I live in Texas Hill Country, USA. I have only recently started to gain weight — and kept much of what I had gained after my last son was born. (he just has to be different). I don’t have much to loose as of right now so am in a slightly different setting than most. I am not trying to offend anyone by being here, please understand my mother is very overweight (her and i rarely talk) and I just do not want to go the same route she did. Which is why I am so interested in the ICMYT program because its different (VERY DIFFERENT) from other programs I have seen. With an over weight parent I have seen WW, Curves, and what ever else you can find out there and seen it NOT work. Mother is an emo- eater. I am an emo-eater. Am hoping to change that now so that I do not become over weight.
So far what I have noticed is that I am not eating just to eat. I do ask myself before I get up to go to the kitchen, “are you hungry or just craving something to munch?” That in itself has helped already! I used to chew gum when I got the “munchies” but alas, the artificial sweeteners tear up my mouth.
Okay.. I have blathered on enough. Again, thank you for accepting me into this group.
Hi, I’m Kate. I live near Washington, D.C. in the US. I had never heard of Paul McKenna until I saw a commercial for his show on TLC. The first episode was on Sunday and was focused on his 4 golden rules. I’m going to try to pick up his book and CD as well. I’ve been “heavy” almost my entire life, and have been dieting almost continuously since I was 12. When I was 15, I went from a US size 14 to a US size 5 in 3 months (not a good thing). I kept the weight off for about a year, and have gained 100+ pounds over the past 9-10 years. I have tried almost every diet out there, and they all worked — for awhile. I’m so happy to have found ICMYT and this blog too. I’ve only been following the program since yesterday, so I have a long way to go, but I feel good already.
On an unrelated note, how much is a stone? I’m always interested in learning more about UK vs. US terminology.
ICMYT is scheduled to show 10pm Friday Central standard time. Check you local listings for an air time on TLC. They did originally have it to show tonite – but that has been changed. And am sure Friday’s is subject to change too. And it is episode 1 for those whom missed it earlier this week.
Hi everyone!
I’m Catherine, and I live in Massachusetts. I just watched the TLC show yesterday and started using the “four golden rules” this morning. Normally I start stuffing my face as soon as the kids leave for school, but today I really thought about what I wanted, then sat down to eat – NOT in front of the TV!!! I did not even finish half of my bagel!!!!!! Shocking!! Anyway, I want to lose 100 lbs, so my bagel encounter is only the first step in a long road. Good luck to everyone – look forward to seeing how we all do!
My husband is the one that told me about the new show “I can make you thin”. He made me watch it with him on Sunday the first episode, and it was very interesting. Both of us decided to try the techniques and see what happens. I do really need to loose at least 60 pounds that I have gained in the past 10-12 years
the thing is that I gained them very slow that before you know it, you realize you need to loose major weight. So, I am up for anything to try and loose weight. We have been on the program since Monday after watching the show on Sunday. We even recorded it and cant wait for this Sunday again. You guys have my website. I will probably ad a section for “I can make you thin and you too ad comment. You can visit my sight for the mean time and sign it
Hello,
I have never visited a blog before, so I am really new to this. I watched the show. I felt like someone turned a light bulb on in my head. All the things he said made so much sense. Why did I not even put them together before? I am feeling optimistic. I haven’t felt that way in a long time. I just don’t want to wait for the rest of the episodes to air. I would like to jump in with both feet. I am glad I found this blog. I don’t feel alone anymore. I hope this works. I can’t wait to hear about your success. Good luck.
Hi
I am really new at this, but willing to give it a try. I was so mpressed with the show, and my biggest problem is that i woof down my food, i am always in a hurry. My husband always teases me and asks if i tasted it. So this week i have taken it serious and slowed down. But i seem to have trouble deciding when I’m full. Is this normal.
Hi
I am from Ontario, Canada. I really need to get on board. For health reasons and for ME!! . My weight has been up and down with every diet. I have joined a gym, but never go. I am always gung Ho! then fall off the wagon. “I WISH I mean HOPE” that this is for me. It sounds like it. My biggest problem is I get bored easily, and I’m sick of salads, and chicken. Infact i have ate so much chicken and fish that it makes me feel ill now. But this time I am slowing down putting down my fork between each bite and can’t believe how good everyday food tastes. The hardest thing is I think I’m full, but not sure ( Is this crazy) does any one else feel this way. Now when i think I am then I take a drink of water that seems to be working for me.
Hello everyone. I finally weighed myself and can afford to lose about 15 pounds. (WHERE did that come from?!) I am looking forward to episode 2. I will be blogging on what I craved during the last few days and some of the things I noticed already.
One thing I notice about myself that others may have too — eating to savor the food just for the flavor even after I know I am full. EH!? I am full, but gosh darn it… it tastes sooooo GOOD! I just gotta have one more bite! (which of course leads to another one!) He didnt cover THAT one! HELP?!
Many blessings.
Kim, I have trouble determining when I am full as well. Basically, what I’ve been doing is as soon as I know I am no longer hungry, I stop. As Paul said on the show, if you’re hungry in 10 minutes, you eat some more. I think (hope?) in time that I will learn to tell when I’m full, but for right now this is my approach.
Heather, I definitely agree with you. If something tastes good, I don’t want to stop — even when I am eating slowly and full already! I need to work on that as well.
Thank you….I finally know that I am not crazy. I have trouble knowing when I am full too. Food does seem to taste better, and I know I am having more bites than I really need. Have to figure that one out. Does anyone know what he has to say about alcohol? Is it a no no?
You can read this to learn what a “stone” is…. Happy Easter!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stone_(weight)
The link didnt post correctly…. so here is what it says…
The stone is a unit of mass. It is part of the Imperial system of weights and measures used in the British Isles, and formerly used in most Commonwealth countries. It is equal to 14 pounds and to 6.35029318 kilograms.
Thanks Heather!!
hello again

i pack it into tupperware into the fridgerator and say to myself: when you get hungry you can eat it again
somtimes it doesent work but most of the time it works
hope you can understand my german-english
)
best wishes an happy easter susie
I am intrigued by Paul’s approach and am looking forward to Sunday’s 2nd show. I did WW 5 years ago and lost 40 lbs. Over the last couple years I put 24 back on due to lots of emo eating (a very disruptive mother in law moved in with us). Took off 18 since January but all the time, still feel very restrictive following WW, as much as they say you can eat anything. I would trade in my salad for a small burger and know I would feel happier.
OOPS..sorry did not introduce myself.
Hello. I am Laura, I live in Ontario, Canada.
I am about 50 pounds overweight–and have been pretty much all my life. I am a binge eater. I go on diets, then I binge. I am pretty sure I have binge eating disorder, which is different than just binging…I have tried pretty much everything, and diets just make binging worse. Despite my skepticism…I am going to start working on the program..as he said really…what do i have to lose?? I am just worried that when i feel like “binging” I will just abandon his program and just stuff my face, like I usually do.
Laura
Ok my posts are backward…what my original post said was basically pretty negative. I am a natural skeptic!! It just sounds too easy, too cut and dry–too simple. Also, it requires us to WANT to stop eating right?? I mean I always WANT to stop eating–but I dont do I?? I just keep eating..so why when I am depressed or whatever–why would I WANT to follow his rules, when I just want to binge??
I am willing to try though–what else is there to do? Certainly not another diet!!
L
Yes, I understand the german/english. I can see your point of putting it away when I am full even when I want to savor more. And its a good idea. Hope I can have the discipline to follow through with that.
Happy Easter everyone.
Many blessings to all.
I didn’t weigh until yesterday so I won’t get an accurate “loss” until next week sometime. But will keep up to date on how am doing otherwise.
hope … no im sure you can do it heather

Yesterday was a good day. I made a delish chicken pasta salad. My dh filled my bowl to nearly overflowing and I made two meals out of it because I did get full and put it away at the *sigh* that they are talking about on the forum on McKenna’s site. Oh, I so wanted more – but when I sighed I put it away. Otherwise had a healthy “light” day. And today – I am enjoying bacon for brekkie and coffee. Am going to get grapes, apples and bananas from the store! Favorite fruits!
Have a blessed day!
I heard about ICMYT from a co-worker and watch some of the show the other night. I’ve been in and out of Overeaters Anonoymous for about 16 years. OA is a 12 step program like AA. It’s approach uses spirituality, group strength and people working with each other. They don’t condone any particular food plan, but a flour, sugar, and wheat plan was popular. I lost 30lbs working it.
Bottom line. Any diet loss plan can work if you work it and commit to it. It’s the day to day committment that messes people up. You have to figure out how are you going to get thru the long haul, i.e. “life”
I agree with some of what McKenna presents in his plan, eating slow, but I don’t think eating anything you want is such a good idea. Maybe if you eat one slice of pizza, instead of 3 you’ll lose weight, but is pizza the best choice for you if you have high cholesterol?
Also, i’m reading people aren’t sure if they’ll full, that’s where weighing and measuring your food comes in. Then there
’s no guessing game and you have set boundaries for yourself. 4oz. of protein, 2 cups of vegetable, 1/2 cup of rice.
I hope it works for everyone!
Hi everyone, I introduced myself a few days ago, but forgot to tell you I am from Wichita, Kansas and I have been trying the program for almost a week. I started this past monday after his first episode and cant wait to his 2nd tomorrow, Easter Sunday
Its at 8pm Central time.
If these are permanet, and loose 2-3 each week I will be thrilled, that would be from 8-12 pounds a week I could loose the 60 pounds I want to loose in a year or less
Anyways, I can see a huge difference in the way I eat following the golden rules and I am starting to know when I am full. After I think I am fool I take a small break and I defenitely can tell. If I get up and fill way to stuffed then I over ate. I am starting to only eat 1/2 or 3/4 of what I usually eat, and although we are not supposed to weight ourselves for at least 2 weeks, I did. It looks like I have lost 2-3 pounds
Has anyone logged in to the MCKenna website?

There is also a forum under community.
Hi everyone! I’m Leslie and I live in Dayton, OH in the US. I stumbled upon Paul McKenna’s show by accident yesterday on TLC. I am very intrigued by what he said and I’m trying it. One thing that I find really interesting is that we allow others (ex. restaurants) to determine how much we eat! A lot of us have such a clean-plate mentality no matter what, and I think that is a huge part of the weight problem here in the US – most of our restaurants serve huge portions, and instead of questioning it, we finish what’s placed in front of us.
I have 47 pounds to lose. Good luck to all of us!
I wont have time to post on my blog today. The example about the restaurants is a very valid point. I have started asking for a to go box to place the rest of my food in when I am full. I take it home where I have 4 boys whom as soon as I walk thru the door go, “what’s that?!”. First one to ask if he can have it gets it. LOL (Boys have a hollow tummy, two hollow legs and a hole in one foot… they can handle it!) If it the food is not appealing to them, and doesn’t reheat well, then I will toss it out the following day. Either way, its had a “second chance” after I leave the restaurant.
I am doing better when I get to the “sigh” (signal of hmm.. full) to put it away from me.
Today — I was in a quandry — I made sausage gravy and biscuits. A favorite. I used a slice of bread in the place of the dinner rolls… started with one slice and a scoop of sausage gravy. That didnt quite get the full signal. So I fixed a second slice and was 3/4 done with it and was full. Just 3 spare bites — so I ate it. Right or wrong — I just couldnt see the point of leaving 3 bites?!
Blessed Easter everyone! Am blowing out the door to go to in-laws for dinner!
(its windy and nasty today…. i hate windy days!)
There was a question in there about alcohol – thanks for that Angie.
– you are not going to be following the 4 rules! Hope that makes sense.
Paul addresses this in his book and goes into a lot more detail – but ultimately says it is best not to eat when you are drinking and don’t drink when you are eating – but if you do still follow the basic rules.
I think this basically come down to ‘everything in moderation’. If you are having a glass of wine or 2 then that is prob going to be fine, if however you drink a lot and then start to eat everyhting in sight – I know I’ve done it
I found the tapping technique from last night to be a little strange, but I guess I’ll give it a try. What did everyone else think about last night’s show?
I didn’t weight myself yet — are we supposed to wait 2 weeks? I don’t remember.
The other day, my husband and I went out to eat, and I suggested (we’re both following the “program”) that we ask for the restaurant to split one meal for both of us. It was eye opening. I actually asked the waiter if he was sure it was split, and it was. The plates STILL looked full, and we STILL had leftovers. I definitely suggest (if you and any dinner guests can agree on a menu item) to split dinners. (It was a LOT less expensive too!)
Hi All!
Just a quick note (I’m at work) to say that last night, my son (age 9) went to our favorite Italian restaurant and he asked if we could split a meal. We hadn’t done that before, and I was surprised when the waitress told me that there wasn’t an additional charge, and the kitchen would even split it for us! So we had chicken fettucine alfredo, and it was great. I hadn’t had it in months. It was the first time I’ve ever left that particular restaurant without being stuffed to the gills, and eating the half portion Paul’s way was definitely enough for me.
Happy Monday to all!
That should be my son AND I in my previous post. Oops.
Hi! I’m Jadey from Northern Mississippi, USA. It is so good to know that there are so many others just like me. I want to loose 100lbs. I started last week and it seems to be working. I haven’t weighed yet, but I know it is working I’m eating less, leaving more food and I actually feel better. I’m very excited.
Oh, I missed last night’s show. Can someone please explain how to handle “Emotional Eating”. What is the “tapping method”, and how does it work?
Thanks!
The TAPPING put to use…..
I have to keep this rather simple. I am a caregiver/home health aid to seniors and other adults for various reasons. Some of our “clients” are highly educated used-to-be hard working retirees. I interrupted a client the other night by mistake. (it consisted of a question due to the fact that the client had fallen.. “socks on??”) The client told my boss about my “interruption”?! That I was sooooo rude?! Never mind the client dominates every single conversation or ignores you entirely. (Which is rude too. ahem.)
At any rate this had severely upset me. And trust me as am typing this am not completely calm but much calmer than I was right after getting off the phone with my boss.
I used the tapping technique to see if it would help calm me since I was FURIOUS! And it’s gone from a complete RAGE to a focused anger. I will continue to use the tapping to help settle my nerves. I have asked that I have limited contact (least amount of over night stays as possible) and the boss is okay with that! YAY!
Have a blessed day!
Hi, I’m Bayla and have been reading and enjoying the blogging posted here! I happened to have caught last night’s ICMYT episode by sheer chance. I am intrigued and actually find the tapping method interesting and helpful. I missed last week’s show and, based on the comments, know that it has something to do with “four golden rules”. Can someone fill me on what I missed from the first show? Much obliged.
Hey Bayla:
FOUR GOLDEN RULES
1. EAT WHEN YOU ARE HUNGRY ( this keeps your metabolism running and up high..if you dont eat, your metabolism shuts down.
2. EAT WHAT YOU WANT! ( if you dont eat what you want, but eat what you think you SHOULD–you will not feel satisfied)
3. EAT CONSCIOUSLY ( no distractions ie tv, radio, reading…you put down your knife and fork between bites, you think of the food, you savour the food…you THINK about the food without any distractions–and you chew 20 times)
4. STOP WHEN YOU ARE FULL ( learn to recognize the full sign…you want FULL not stuffed…)
L
Hello! What a great site. I tuned into the ICMYT show on Fri. & Sat. Wow is really all I can say. I am so excited to know that there is another way to lose weight than all the crazy diets out there. I could stand to lose about 30 lbs and would be delighted if my husband did too. Happy weight loss everyone!
Ok.,…it is weird, but the TAPPING WORKS ( although I feel like a moron, doing it….) anybody else think like me?? Do you think its just mind over matter???
L
I love the tapping, the idiots I work with don’t even bug me anymore.
I saw a bit of one episode last week – and an entire episode tonight. I need shed at least 20-25 lbs. I am going to do the tapping and try to find a book too. My weight has gone up and down through the years – everything thing from problems with eating disorders – ruining my body and hair with that way of life. My 5′8″ body had wasted away to a size 4 – which is so not healthy. When my hair started falling out and showing signs of baldness – I got help. I have to just get in control of eating – not let it control me – stop hiding. I will try this. I WILL.
Hi Everyone!
I just wanted to drop a quick note to say that I weighed myself this morning and after 1 week I am down…
FOUR POUNDS!!!
I can’t believe it. I’m so excited! We’ll see what the next week brings. I’m a little nervous because I’m going on vacation, but I’m planning to continue to eat the Paul McKenna way while I’m out of town, and hopefully I’ll at least maintain my loss from this week.
Good luck to everyone! This really works!
Hey, four pounds! That’s brilliant – well done you
Also, if you are anything like me – as great as the weightloss is – and it is great – the feeling of being back in control of what you are eating is oh so sweet as well.
Okay…I didn’t get to watch the full episode last night. Can anyone fill me in on how to get past those binges and cravings? I got to the part about the lady who loved chocolate and her visualization of worms. Was that about it?
I can honestly say I haven’t weighed myself and have been gauging any weight loss on clothes I have that haven’t fit for some time. I am have a few pairs of pants that aren’t as snug!
Good luck Leslie! Have a great vacation.
My name is Bob and I’m in the San Francisco Bay Area. I have almost 200 lbs to lose. I would like to become half the man I used to be
I originally saw an ad for ICMYT about a month before it aired… I set the DVR to grab it. I’ve now watched all three episodes (#4 is on in a few minutes) and each has made more sense than the last.
The 4 Golden Rules… easy! I leave several meals worth of food on my plate at each meal.
Tapping… works like crazy! If there’s a chocolate chip cookie within reach, the only time I eat only one is if only one is left! Now I tap and I can walk away from a plate of warm, soft delicious cookies after eating only one.
Visualization… it’s all about that “warm, soft, delicious” stuff. Now I see them with hair off the barbershop floor (after serving someone with dreadlocks!!) and I add a little sand from the beach. Easy to pass ‘em up now.
I used a digital scale (nope, I don’t own it… I went to the Community Center Gym) two weeks ago (Wednesday) and again a few days ago (also on Wednesday) and I made sure to wear the same clothes/shoes and go at about the same time of day. I’ve lost 14 lbs (from what I read above, that’s one full stone!) in two weeks!
I’m looking forward to tonight’s episode. Tonight is to be about getting motivated to exercise. If he can pull that one off – he’s a miracle worker.
Seriously tho, I’ve been so impressed with his approach to changing how I think about food, I’ve just purchased “I Can Make You Rich” at Amazon.com. Thin and rich… who said I could never be too?
Okay, just checking in. I’ve been using the tapping method, and it actually works! I’m so amazed. I tried the craving technique, it worked for a while, but the craving for chocolate keeps coming back. Anyone else having this happen?
